Jarred Samples Named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago Director of Athletics Tom Weingartner announced today that Jarred Samples has been appointed assistant men's basketball coach.
Samples spent the past five years as an assistant coach at Southwestern University, a member of the NCAA Division III Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
During Samples's tenure, the Pirates produced a record of 84-49 (.632), including a 48-26 mark (.649) in SCAC play. In 2005-06, Southwestern notched its fourth consecutive winning campaign with a 19-8 record.
A 2001 graduate of the University of Dallas with a bachelor's degree in history, Samples was a four-year basketball letter winner. He was a three-time American Southwest Conference All-Academic selection as well as an All-ASC honoree.
Samples joins the staff of Head Coach Mike McGrath, who enters his eighth year in 2006-07. Chicago posted a 15-10 overall record a season ago, giving the Maroons their ninth winning campaign in 11 years.
