Chicago Defeats Trinity 60-57
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Senior Drew Adams's (Elida, Ohio/ Elida) back-to-back three-point field goals early in the second half gave the Maroons the lead for good as the University of Chicago men's basketball team improved to 4-0 with a 60-57 win Friday night over host Trinity (Texas) University.
Chicago, which never trailed in the contest, opened up a 30-19 halftime advantage before the Tigers (2-2) rallied to even the score at 32-32 on a three-pointer by Casey Hill with 15:11 left in the game.
Adams then sunk three-point baskets at the 14:45 and 13:40 marks to put the Maroons in the lead 38-32.
After Trinity closed the gap to 52-48 with under seven minutes to go, Adams made a layup at the 5:07 mark and buried his fourth three-pointer of the night with 4:11 on the clock as Chicago matched its largest lead of the second stanza, 57-48.
Trinity made it a two-point game when a Hill layup with 58 seconds remaining cut the Maroons' lead to 59-57. Junior Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) converted one of two free throw attempts for Chicago with 31 seconds to play to account for the game's final points.
Adams finished with a career-high 14 points, including a 4-for-7 effort from three-point range.
Senior Brandon Woodhead (Lincoln, Neb./ East) connected on four of eight three-point attempts en route to a team-high 16 points. Junior Tim Reynolds (North Canton, Ohio/ Hoover) pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds.
Hill led all scorers with 23 points.
