Maroons Finish 3rd of 39 at Augustana
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Senior Emil Bojanov (Sofia, Bulgaria/ Dulaney, Md.) finished eighth out of more than 400 runners as the 18th-ranked University of Chicago men's cross country team placed third at the 39-team Brissman-Lundeen Invitational Friday at Augustana (Ill.) College.
Bojanov posted a time of 25:52 on the eight-kilometer course en route to his eighth-place showing. Hillary Samoei of Iowa Central College led the 433-runner field with a time of 25:16, while Loras College's Ben Grant was the top Division III competitor (25:23).
Sophomore Jon Ascolese (Loveland, Ohio/ Loveland) and senior Brian Hague (Chicago, Ill./ Brother Rice) also placed among the top 20 for Chicago. Ascolese finished 14th with a time of 25:57, while Hague's 26:08 performance was good for 19th place.
28th-ranked Augustana won the event -- which featured 20 Division III schools -- with 68 points in the final team standings. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point was the runner-up with 82 points, followed by Chicago with 118.
