Chicago Places Six on All-UAA Team
CHICAGO -- Six University of Chicago men's soccer players have been selected to the 2006 All-University Athletic Association Team, the conference announced today.
Four players -- senior goalkeeper Keith Crum (Holland, Pa./ Council Rock South), junior forward Andrew Hamilton (Springfield, Ill./ Sacred Heart-Griffin), junior midfielder Eric Kirkenmeier (Wheaton, Ill./ Benet), and freshman midfielder Alex Takakuwa (Davis, Calif./ Davis) -- were named to the All-Association second team.
Chicago's all-time shutouts leader (22), Crum started 13 matches and posted a 0.76 goals against average with five shutouts overall. A repeat All-UAA second team pick, Crum notched a 0.98 goals against average in four UAA contests.
Hamilton was the Maroons' leading scorer with seven goals and four assists for 18 points on the season. In UAA play, he tallied five times in seven matches.
Kirkenmeier collected three goals and an assist in 19 games, with one goal in conference action. He scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over 11th-ranked Dominican (Ill.) University on September 20.
Takakuwa led the team with six assists and was the Maroons' third-leading goal scorer (3). He recorded three assists in UAA play, one of which came with seven seconds left in regulation as Chicago forced a 1-1 tie with 21st-ranked New York University.
Senior midfielder Joe Frontczak (Creve Coeur, Mo./ Chaminade) and junior defender Jon Cartwright (Franklin, Tenn./ Battle Ground Academy) earned All-UAA honorable mention recognition.
Frontczak had three assists in 17 games, while Cartwright led a Chicago defensive corps that allowed only 16 goals in 19 games with six shutouts.
Chicago posted a 10-5-4 overall record this season. The Maroons, who placed fifth in the UAA with 2-3-2 mark, earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Division III tournament where they were eliminated in the first round.
