Maroons Fall at #15 Case
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- R.J. French scored the winning goal in the 72nd minute as 15th-ranked Case Western Reserve University defeated the University of Chicago 2-1 in University Athletic Association men's soccer action Sunday at Case Stadium.
French scored off assists from Noah Marciniak and Brian Evans at the 71:55 mark to snap a 1-1 tie.
Case (11-2-1 overall, 2-2-0 UAA) opened the scoring at 12:56 when Matt Paglia scored off a feed from Pranav Lohitsa.
Junior midfielder Eric Kirkenmeier (Wheaton, Ill./ Benet Academy) brought the Maroons (7-4-2, 1-2-1) back to even with his third goal of the season at the 58:13 mark. Freshman forward Alex Takakuwa (Davis, Calif./ Davis) picked up the assist, his team-leading fourth of the campaign.
Case goalkeeper Chad Skidmore stopped four shots. Sophomore Micah Gruber (Rockville Centre, N.Y./ South Side), making his first career start, collected six saves for the Maroons.
Chicago lost for just the second time in its last nine contests.
