Chicago Defeats #11 Dominican 1-0
RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Junior midfielder Eric Kirkenmeier (Wheaton, Ill./ Benet Academy) scored the game's only goal midway through the second half as the University of Chicago men's soccer team upended 11th-ranked host Dominican (Ill.) University 1-0 on Wednesday.
Kirkenmeier tallied his second goal of the season -- and second game-winner -- off an assist from freshman forward Alex Takakuwa (Davis, Calif./ Davis) at the 63:09 mark.
Chicago (3-2-1) outshot the Stars (6-1) 11-6 and enjoyed a 6-1 edge in corner kicks en route to its second straight victory.
Senior netminder Keith Crum (Holland, Pa./ Council Rock South) made three saves to post his second shutout of the year and the 19th of his career. He needs one more shutout to tie the school record held by David Collar (1996-99).
The win marked first-year Head Coach Scott Wiercinski's first ever over a nationally-ranked opponent.
