Maroons Defeat John Carroll 3-0
CHICAGO -- Three different players scored and senior goalkeeper Keith Crum (Holland, Pa./ Council Rock South) tied the school's career shutouts record as the University of Chicago men's soccer team defeated John Carroll University 3-0 Sunday at Stagg Field.
Crum made two saves to post his 20th career shutout, which ties the Chicago record first set by David Collar from 1996-99.
Sophomore midfielder Tom Lobell (Topeka, Kan./ Washburn Rural) gave Chicago (4-2-1) an early lead when he scored his third goal of the year off an assist from freshman forward Alex Takakuwa (Davis, Calif./ Davis) just 6:40 into the contest.
Lobell's goal was his second game-winner of the year and second in the Maroons' last three outings.
The score remained 1-0 until the 63rd minute when junior midfielder Mike Glass (Colorado Springs, Colo./ Cheyenne Mountain) scored his first career goal off assists from Lobell and junior midfielder Stuart Phelps (Helena, Mont./ Capital).
Freshman midfielder Jan-Michael Guerra (Plano, Texas/ Plano) capped the scoring with his first career goal at the 86:56 mark. Junior forward Andrew Hamilton (Springfield, Ill./ Sacred Heart-Griffin) collected the assist.
Chicago, which won its third straight match, outshot John Carroll (0-5-2) by a 16-8 margin, including a 7-2 edge in the second half.
