Chicago Earns NCAA Division III Tournament Berth
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago men's soccer team has received a bid to compete in the 2006 NCAA Division III Championship. The Maroons will participate in a four-team regional Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11-12 at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois.
Chicago (10-5-3) will face St. Norbert College (15-2-1) in first-round play Saturday at approximately 1:30 p.m. The match will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of an 11:00 a.m. contest between host Dominican (18-1-1) and Aurora University (12-4-4).
Saturday's winners will meet Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for the opportunity to advance to the sectionals (round of 16) to be held November 17-19.
Chicago is one of five University Athletic Association teams invited to participate in the 57-team NCAA tournament. Case Western Reserve University earned the automatic bid, while New York University, the University of Rochester, and Washington (Mo.) University joined Chicago as at-large selections.
Led by first-year Head Coach Scott Wiercinski, the Maroons are making their fourth NCAA postseason appearance and second in as many years. Chicago advanced to the second round a year ago.
