Chicago Ties #20 NYU in Final Seconds

CHICAGO -- Junior forward Andrew Hamilton's (Springfield, Ill./ Sacred Heart-Griffin) goal with seven seconds remaining in regulation lifted the University of Chicago men's soccer team to a 1-1 tie with 20th-ranked New York University in University Athletic Association action Saturday at Stagg Field.

With Chicago (9-4-3 overall, 1-2-2 UAA) trailing 1-0 in the game's closing seconds, freshman midfielder Alex Takakuwa (Davis, Calif./ Davis) sent a corner kick toward the NYU net where Hamilton collected it and fired it past Violets' netminder Chris Wright with :07 showing on the clock.

The goal was Hamilton's team-leading fifth of the campaign, while Takakuwa's assist was his team-best fifth of the year.

The teams combined for just four shots in the two overtime periods en route to the deadlock.

Jeritt Thayer gave NYU (13-1-2, 4-0-1) the lead with his 11th goal of the season at the 59:12 mark.

Wright made one save for the Violets, who extended their unbeaten streak to 12 matches.

Sophomore goalkeeper Micah Gruber (Rockville Centre, N.Y./ South Side) matched his career high with six saves.
