Chicago Defeats Wheaton (Ill.) 2-1

CHICAGO -- Sophomore forward Eric Floyd (McMurray, Pa./ Peters) scored a pair of goals to lead the University of Chicago men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Wheaton (Ill.) College Wednesday at Stagg Field.

Following a scoreless first half, Floyd tallied just 1:35 into the second stanza off an assist from senior midfielder Joe Frontczak (Creve Coeur, Mo./ Chaminade). Frontczak set up Floyd just inside the penalty box.

Wheaton (8-6-3) tied the game at the 57:33 mark on Joel DeLass's fifth goal of the season. Strider Elass assisted on the goal with a long pass from near midfield.

The score remained even for only five minutes, as Floyd's second goal of the game and third of the year at 62:35 proved to be the game-winner. Floyd finished a rebound of a shot by junior midfielder Eric Kirkenmeier (Wheaton, Ill./ Benet).

Sophomore goalkeeper Micah Gruber (Rockville Centre, N.Y./ South Side) earned his first career victory in his second start for the Maroons (8-4-2). He stopped four shots, two in each half.

Ben Dons collected nine saves for the Thunder.
