Maroons Edge Wisconsin-Whitewater 2-1
WHITEWATER, Wis. -- Freshman forward Edgar Friloux (Madison, Wis./ West) scored both of the Maroons' goals as the University of Chicago men's soccer team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Friloux scored the game's first goal in the 23rd minute before notching the game-winner in the 73rd minute. Junior midfielder Andrew Hamilton (Springfield, Ill./ Sacred Heart-Griffin) assisted on both goals, Friloux's third and fourth of the campaign.
Friloux's second goal marked his second game-winner of the year.
Jason Blocker tallied unassisted for Wisconsin-Whitewater (9-4-1) in the 66th minute to even the score at 1-1.
Chicago (9-4-2), which won its second straight match, outshot the host Warhawks 6-5.
The victory assures the Maroons of a winning season, making Head Coach Scott Wiercinski the first of nine coaches in Chicago men's soccer history to achieve the feat in his debut season.
