Maroons Take Second at Chicago Invitational
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago men's swimming & diving team finished second among six teams at the Chicago Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine Pool.
The Maroons won three relay events and recorded six first-place finishes in individual events on the weekend.
Freshman Brian Young (Douglassville, Pa./ St. Pius) won a pair of events, taking top honors in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes (54.90, 2:00.34).
Senior James Viccaro (Riverside, Ill./ Riverside-Brookfield) and junior Andrew Kent (Barcelona, Venezuela/ CIPLC) won the 50-yard (21.80) and 200-yard freestyle (1:47.21), respectively.
Sophomore Shane Carlson (Houston, Texas/ Memorial) led the way in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:37.28), while junior Chris Whaley (Helena, Mont./ Helena) claimed first place in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.67).
The quartet of Young, senior Pat Seastedt (Lakewood, N.Y./ Central), sophomore Alex Stabell (Godfrey, Ill./ Alton), and Viccaro took top honors in the 200-yard medley relay (1:38.81).
Carlson, junior Hiro Hayashi (Tokyo, Japan/ St. Mary’s), junior Zach Ergish (Moreno Valley, Calif./ Valley View), and Kent won the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:15.37).
Viccaro, Kent, Stabell, and Hayashi placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:14.40).
Olivet College won the event with 1,095 points, narrowly edging Chicago's 1,049.
