Chicago Wins Two Duals at Illinois Wesleyan
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The University of Chicago men's swimming & diving team posted a 2-0 mark at the Illinois Wesleyan University Triangular on Saturday, defeating the host Titans 87-18 and Principia College 84-28.
Chicago won 10 of 13 events on the day as it improved to 3-0 in dual meets this season.
Six Chicago swimmers recorded first-place performances: senior Pat Seastedt (Lakewood, N.Y./ Central) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.08), senior James Viccaro (Riverside, Ill./ Riverside-Brookfield) in the 50-yard freestyle (22.01), junior Zach Ergish (Moreno Valley, Calif./ Valley View) in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.90), junior Chris Whaley (Helena, Mont./ Helena) in the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.67), sophomore Alex Stabell (Godfrey, Ill./ Alton) in the 100-yard freestyle (50.30), and freshman Brian Young (Douglassville, Pa./ St. Pius) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.20).
Junior Paul Accardi (Bristol, Pa./ Holy Ghost) took top honors in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competition (119.00, 116.55).
Chicago also won both relay events.
Junior Hiro Hayashi (Tokyo, Japan/ St. Mary’s), junior John Mullen (Charlotte, N.C./ Myers Park), freshman Chase Bassignani (Fairfield, Calif./ Justin-Siena), and Young teamed up to win the 400-yard medley relay (3:48.34), while junior Andrew Kent (Barcelona, Venezuela/ CIPLC), freshman Mark Surabian (Boise, Idaho/ Boise), Stabell, and Vicarro led the way in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:20.83).
