Maroons Finish Fourth at UAA Championship
ATLANTA, Ga. -- Featuring eight All-Association performances from six different individuals, the University of Chicago men's outdoor track & field team placed fourth at the 2007 University Athletic Association Championship Saturday and Sunday at Emory University.
Freshman Blake Obuchowski (Geneva, Ill./ Geneva) notched the Maroons' lone first-place finish as he took top honors in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.82 seconds.
Senior Emil Bojanov (Sofia, Bulgaria/ Dulaney, Md.) turned in a national qualifying performance with a third-place finish in the 1,500-meter run. His time of 3:54.49 met the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standard.
Junior Zach Rodgers (Nashville, Tenn./ University School) claimed All-UAA recognition in three events with second-place showings in the high jump (1.82 m), triple jump (13.56 m), and long jump (6.55 m).
Another runner-up, junior John Anderson (Downers Grove, Ill./ North) recorded a distance of 48.38 meters in the hammer throw, while senior Mike Doll (West Chicago, Ill./ West Chicago) and sophomore Seth Satterlee (New Orleans, La./ Metairie Park Country Day) placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (56.61 seconds) and pole vault (4.15 m), respectively.
Carnegie Mellon University won the seven-team event with 168 points. Emory University (166.5) and Washington (Mo.) University (131.33) placed second and third, respectively, with the Maroons next with 124.83 points.
