Vanessa Pineros Named to Academic All-District Team

CHICAGO -- University of Chicago junior catcher Vanessa Pineros (Mukilteo, Wash./ Kamiak) has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Five Softball Team.

A first team selection, Pineros led the Maroons in batting (.449), hits (48), doubles (9), RBIs (21), walks (18), and on-base percentage (.531) during the 2007 regular season en route to earning All-Great Lakes Region second team accolades.

As a first team Academic All-District pick, Pineros becomes eligible for inclusion on the Academic All-America Team to be announced later this month.

A biology and psychology major with a 3.76 grade point average, Pineros is a two-time All-Great Lakes Region selection and 2007 University Athletic Association All-Academic Recognition Award recipient.

Chicago posted a 25-9 mark during the regular season and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
