Maroons Rout Kalamazoo 16-1, 9-1

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Scoring 25 runs in 11 innings of play, the University of Chicago softball team won both halves of a doubleheader Sunday at Kalamazoo College, taking the first game 16-1 in five innings before winning the nightcap 9-1 in six innings.

In game one, freshman second baseman Jillian Lenson (Newton, Mass./ South) led an 18-hit onslaught as she went 4-for-4 with four RBIs in the Maroons' 16-1 victory.

Senior pitcher Petra Wade (Batavia, Ill./ Batavia) and junior left fielder Dominique Marshall (Westerville, Ohio/ Columbus School for Girls) each collected three hits and a pair of RBIs, while senior shortstop Jessica Mayhew (Plymouth, N.H./ Plymouth) and junior designated hitter Vanessa Pineros (Mukilteo, Wash./ Kamiak) also drove in a pair of runs.

In four innings of work, Wade allowed one run and four hits while fanning seven to raise her record to 8-2.

En route to its fourth consecutive win, Chicago (14-4) took advantage of three home runs in the second game as it rolled to a 9-1 decision.

Freshman pitcher Kathleen Duffy (Hoffman Estates, Ill./ Barrington) slugged her team-leading fourth of the year, while Marshall and sophomore designated hitter Christina Ricordati (Elmhurst, Ill./ York) each belted their first of the season.

Duffy (2-0) went the distance, scattering six hits over six innings. She struck out three while issuing just one walk.

Kalamazoo fell to 3-12.
