Maroons Sweep Lawrence;
Petra Wade Ties Career Victory Mark
CHICAGO -- Senior pitcher Petra Wade (Batavia, Ill./ Batavia) celebrated Senior Day by tying the school career victory record as the University of Chicago softball team routed Lawrence University 9-1 and 10-4 in doubleheader action Sunday at Stagg Field.
Wade (14-5) allowed four hits and one run while striking out six in five innings of work in game one to notch her 49th lifetime victory -- matching the most ever in Chicago history. She also contributed at the plate, as she was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Senior center fielder Nancy Bugajski (Chicago, Ill./ Marian Catholic) led the Chicago attack, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Junior catcher Vanessa Pineros (Mukilteo, Wash./ Kamiak) was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
In the nightcap, Wade and senior shortstop Jessica Mayhew (Plymouth, N.H./ Plymouth) each slugged home runs as part of the Maroons' 12-hit onslaught. Wade's home run -- a two-run blast in the third inning -- was the first of her career. Mayhew's two-run homer in the sixth was her fifth of the campaign, tying the team high.
Freshman pitcher Lauren White (Oakland, Calif./ Bentley School) picked up the win (6-3) in relief of senior southpaw Lauren Hula (East Lansing, Mich./ East Lansing).
White allowed three runs in three frames. Hula yielded one run, which was unearned, in the game's first three innings.
Chicago (24-8) extended its winning streak to six games and won for the ninth time in its last 11 outings.
Lawrence dropped to 15-10.
