Chicago to Compete in NCAA Division III Tournament
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago softball team has received an at-large bid to participate in the 2007 NCAA Division III Championship, the NCAA announced today. The Maroons will compete in a seven-team double-elimination regional at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire beginning Thursday, May 10.
In opening round play Thursday at noon, fourth-seeded Chicago (25-9) will face fifth-seeded Coe College (27-12). The winner of that game will take on the top seed, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (34-9), Thursday at 6:00 p.m. The loser of the opening round game will return to action at noon Friday.
Other teams competing in the regional include, #2 seed Illinois Wesleyan University (31-12), #3 seed Augustana (Ill.) College (30-12), #6 seed Wisconsin-Eau Claire (31-12), and #7 seed St. Norbert College (20-12).
The winner of the Wisconsin-Eau Claire regional will advance to the NCAA Division III Championship to be held May 18-22 at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia.
