Coe Eliminates Chicago from NCAA Regional

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- Coe College scored a pair of runs in four straight innings en route to an 8-0 elimination game victory over the University of Chicago softball team on the second day of the NCAA Division III Regional Friday at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Fifth-seeded Coe (30-13) pounded out 13 hits en route to the five-inning victory. Center fielder April Kalmes, first baseman Amy Hanse, and third baseman MacKenzie Lang each collected three hits for the Kohawks, who stranded 11 runners.

Coe also took advantage of five Chicago errors which resulted in five unearned runs.

Coe pitcher Ellie Schultz, who set an NCAA Division III record with 25 strikeouts in a 14-inning 1-0 loss to the top-seeded University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Thursday night, allowed three hits without a walk while fanning two over five innings.

Freshman pitcher Lauren White (Oakland, Calif./ Bentley School) took the loss for the fourth-seeded Maroons. White (6-4) yielded five hits and three runs -- one earned -- before giving way to senior Petra Wade (Batavia, Ill./ Batavia) with one out in the third inning.

The Kohawks will advance to face second-seeded Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday.

Chicago concludes the season with a 26-11 overall record, matching the school's season victory record first set in 2001 and 2004.
