Petra Wade Wins #50 as Maroons Split
CHICAGO -- Senior pitcher Petra Wade (Batavia, Ill./ Batavia) won her 50th career game -- the most ever in school history -- as the University of Chicago softball team concluded its regular season with a doubleheader split against Great Lakes Region rival University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Tuesday at Stagg Field.
In the opening contest, Wade allowed five hits without a walk while striking out six en route to her 15th victory in 20 decisions this season. With 50 lifetime wins, she now stands alone atop the Chicago all-time chart.
The game was tied 1-1 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning when freshman designated hitter Kathleen Duffy (Hoffman Estates, Ill./ Barrington) blasted her sixth home run of the year to give the Maroons a 2-1 victory.
Wisconsin-Oshkosh's Ronessa Stampfli (14-4) struck out 10 batters in a losing effort.
In game two, the Titans (29-7) tagged Chicago senior starter Lauren Hula (East Lansing, Mich./ East Lansing) for five runs -- two earned -- in an inning and two-thirds en route to a 6-4 win. Hula slipped to 2-1 on the year.
Amie Heinzelman went 4-for-4 for the Titans, who entered the game as the top-ranked team in the most recently published Great Lakes Region poll. Amy Sullivan (12-1) went the distance to record the victory.
Duffy and sophomore third baseman Jen Jacobson (Schaumburg, Ill./ Conant) each homered for Chicago.
The Maroons, currently ranked seventh in the Great Lakes Region, concluded their regular season with a 25-9 mark and remain in contention for an at-large bid to the 2007 NCAA Division III tournament. The NCAA will announce the tournament field on Monday, May 7.
