Chicago Nets Two UAA Athletes of the Week
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago senior Jesse Meyer (Omaha, Neb./ Bellevue West) and sophomore Ben Hart (Wood Dale, Ill./ Fenton) have been named the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for men's basketball and wrestling, respectively, the conference announced today.
Meyer averaged 20.0 points and shot better than 70% from three-point distance as the Maroons swept a pair of Association games.
He scored 16 points on 4-for-8 three-point shooting in a 100-69 win over Carnegie Mellon University on January 19 before turning in a perfect shooting night (8-for-8 from the field with six 3-pointers, 2-for-2 from the line) during an 81-74 victory over the University of Rochester two days later.
In the two games, Meyer shot 76.5% (13-for-17) from the floor, including a 71.4% clip (10-for-14) from three-point range. He also collected six assists against just one turnover.
Hart captured the 133-pound title at Elmhurst College's Al Hanke Invitational on January 20.
Seeded second, Hart scored a 9-3 semifinal decision over his William Rainey Harper College opponent -- the nation's seventh-ranked junior college 133-pounder. He finished the day with a 7-1 decision over the top seed from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the championship match.
Both athletes earned their first career UAA Athlete of the Week citation.
