Cartwright, Farmer Earn UAA Honors

CHICAGO -- University of Chicago junior defender Jon Cartwright (Franklin, Tenn./ Battle Ground Academy) and junior forward Christine Farmer (Pine City, N.Y./ Elmira Notre Dame) have been selected as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for men's and women's soccer, respectively, the conference announced today.

Led by Cartwright, the Maroons held their opponents to one goal during a 1-0-1 week. Chicago opened the season with a 4-1 win over Kalamazoo College on Sept. 2, before playing Aurora University to a scoreless tie two days later. The Hornets -- who scored off a penalty kick -- and Spartans managed only four shots on goal in the two contests.

Farmer scored three goals during the first 13 minutes of the second half as Chicago defeated host Heidelberg College 5-0 in its season opener this past Saturday. She scored twice 48 seconds apart early in the second stanza, tallying at 46:57 and 47:45, before adding a third goal at the 57:04 mark.

Both players received their first career UAA Athlete of the Week award.
