Three Maroons Earn UAA Weekly Accolades

CHICAGO -- Three University of Chicago fall sports athletes have been chosen as the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week in their respective sports, the conference announced today.

Senior Vidthya Abraham (Spartanburg, S.C./ Governor's Math & Science) was recognized in women's cross country for the first time in her career after finishing fourth among 88 runners at this past Saturday's Luther College All-American Invitational. Abraham clocked a time of 18:56 on the five-kilometer course.

Junior tailback Nick Schey (Barrington, Ill./ St. Viator) was honored as the UAA football offensive player of the week after he tied a Chicago modern era (since 1969) record with four rushing touchdowns in a 55-0 win over Concordia University Chicago. Schey, who scored on runs of 2, 2, 3, and 9 yards, gained 191 yards on 25 carries. He earned his fourth career UAA weekly citation and his first in 2006.

For the second straight week, junior forward Christine Farmer (Pine City, N.Y./ Elmira Notre Dame) was named the UAA's top offensive performer in women's soccer. She scored the tying goal in the 77th minute in a 2-2 deadlock at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point before tallying a pair of goals in a 4-0 win over the University of LaVerne. Farmer's UAA Athlete of the Week award was the second of her career.

Farmer was also named to this week's D3kicks.com Team of the Week.
