Three Maroons Net UAA Athlete of the Week Honors

CHICAGO -- Three University of Chicago fall sport athletes have been selected as the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week in their respective sports, the conference announced today.

Senior quarterback Matt Rinklin (New York, N.Y./ Fordham Prep) was named the UAA's top offensive performer in football after rushing for 84 yards and a touchdown and passing for 185 yards in a 34-7 win at Macalester College this past Saturday.

Rinklin, who was honored by the UAA for the first time this year and the second time during his career, completed 16 of 24 attempts with one interception.

In men's and women's soccer, Chicago goalkeepers were chosen as the conference's defensive players of the week.

Senior Keith Crum (Holland, Pa./ Council Rock South) tied the men’s soccer team’s all-time shutouts record as the Maroons defeated 11th-ranked Dominican (Ill.) University 1-0 (Sept. 20) and John Carroll University 3-0 (Sept. 24). Crum collected three saves against Dominican and two against John Carroll en route to his 19th and 20th lifetime shutouts.

Crum garnered his first UAA Athlete of the Week award of 2006 and the third of his career.

Sophomore Polly Cline (Traverse City, Mich./ Central) allowed just one goal in 199:24 of play as the women's soccer team notched a 2-1 overtime win over Carthage College (Sept. 20) and a 1-0 decision over eighth-ranked DePauw University (Sept. 23).  A first-time UAA player of the week recipient, Cline made six saves in the two contests.
