Men's Soccer Pair Named UAA Athletes of the Week
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago junior forward Andrew Hamilton (Springfield, Ill./ Sacred Heart-Griffin) and sophomore goalkeeper Micah Gruber (Rockville Centre, N.Y./ South Side) have been selected as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for men's soccer, the conference announced today.
Hamilton was named the UAA's top offensive performer after scoring all three goals for the Maroons in a 1-0-1 weekend. He tallied the tying goal with seven seconds left in regulation to force a 1-1 double-overtime draw with 20th-ranked New York University. The next day, he notched a pair of goals as the Maroons defeated Brandeis University 2-0.
Gruber allowed just one goal in 200 minutes en route to capturing UAA defensive player of the week recognition. He made six saves in a 1-1 double-overtime draw against NYU before making four stops in a 2-0 win over Brandeis for his first career shutout.
Both players received their first career UAA Athlete of the Week citation.
