Chicago Falls to #6 Carthage in Home Finale
CHICAGO -- Sixth-ranked Carthage College defeated the University of Chicago volleyball team 30-25, 30-22, 30-20 Wednesday night in the Maroons' final home match of the season.
Sophomore outside hitter Katie Volzer (North Canton, Ohio/ Lake) led the Maroons (4-26) with 10 kills, marking her fourth double-digit effort of the year and second in her last two matches.
Playing in her final home match, senior setter Nikki Sindy (Granger, Ind./ Penn) collected a team-high 16 assists to increase her school record career total to 3,035.
Junior middle hitter Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) registered five blocks, including three solos, while hitting .500 (4-0-8).
Junior middle hitter Erin O'Neill (Peoria, Ill./ Notre Dame) finished with four blocks -- two solos and a pair of assists. O'Neill, who has already set a school season mark with 105 block assists, pulled to within three total blocks of the Chicago season record (138) in that category.
The match marked the Maroons' ninth against a team currently ranked in the NCAA Division III coaches poll, and their sixth against a top-10 foe.
