Chicago Wins One of Four at Dubuque Invite

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Freshman outside hitter Diandra Bucciarelli (Del Mar, Calif./ Torrey Pines) earned all-tournament team honors as the University of Chicago volleyball team posted a 1-3 mark at the University of Dubuque Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Grand View def. Chicago 30-20, 30-14, 31-33, 31-29 (Sept. 8)
Sophomore outside hitter Kerry Dornfeld (Cary, Ill./ Cary) hit .818 with nine kills in 11 attempts without an error as the Maroons opened the tournament with a four-game loss to Grand View College (2-6). Junior middle hitter Erin O'Neill (Peoria, Ill./ Notre Dame) contributed nine kills and four blocks, including two solos. Senior setter Nikki Sindy (Granger, Ind./ Penn) finished with a season-high 29 assists.

Chicago def. Grinnell 30-24, 30-24, 30-25 (Sept. 8)
Bucciarelli clubbed 10 kills and four different Maroons collected four blocks as the Maroons defaeted Grinnell College (1-5) for their first victory of the year. Junior outside hitter Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) hit .438 (9-2-16) in addition to registering four block assists.

Viterbo def. Chicago 30-20, 30-20, 28-30, 30-19 (Sept. 9)
Kendall hit 10 kills with a .400 attack percentage in a four-game loss to Viterbo College (5-5). Bucciarelli led the Maroons with 12 digs, while freshman Yayan Zhang (Chicago, Ill./ U. of Chicago Labratory School) added 11.

Dubuque def. Chicago 19-30, 30-14, 30-28, 30-19 (Sept. 9)
Bucciarelli and Kendall hit 12 and 10 kills, respectively, as the Maroons wrapped up the weekend with a four-game setback against tournament host Dubuque (4-4).

In the four matches, Bucciarelli led the Maroons (1-7) with 39 kills (2.60 per game), 41 digs (2.73) and 11 aces (0.73). Kendall collected 37 kills with a. 309 hitting percentage while leading the Maroons with 17 blocks. Sindy and sophomore setter Nikki Boddicker (Encino, Calif./ Buckley School) contributed 78 and 51 assists, respectively.
