Chicago Splits on Final Day of Gargoyle Classic
CHICAGO -- Junior middle hitter Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) hit 15 kills -- the most by a Maroon this season -- to lead the University of Chicago volleyball team to a three-game win over Illinois College in the finale of the 2006 Gargoyle Classic Saturday at the Ratner Athletics Center. The win gave Chicago a 1-1 record for the day and a 1-3 mark on the weekend.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps def. Chicago 32-30, 27-30, 30-21, 30-27
Three Maroons clubbed double-digit kills in a four-game loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (5-3). Freshman outside hitter Diandra Bucciarelli (Del Mar, Calif./ Torrey Pines) led the way with 14 kills and a .333 percentage, while junior middle hitter Erin O'Neill (Peoria, Ill./ Notre Dame) and sophomore outside hitter Katie Volzer (North Canton, Ohio/ Lake) each hit 10. O'Neill, who posted a .333 attack percentage, led Chicago with seven blocks.

Junior middle hitter Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) hit 15 kills in 19 attempts without an error (.789) as the Maroons (2-12) concluded the weekend with a three-game win over Illinois College (5-9). O'Neill hit 10 kills with a .400 attack percentage to help Chicago snap a seven-match losing streak.
In the Classic's four matches, Bucciarelli led the Maroons with 35 kills and 11 aces, while O'Neill collected a team-best 24 blocks. An all-tournament team will be announced on Sunday.
