Maroons Win One of Three at UAA Round Robin
ATLANTA, Ga. -- The University of Chicago volleyball team posted a 1-2 mark at the University Athletic Association Round Robin Friday and Saturday at Emory University.
#15 NYU def. Chicago 30-26, 30-23, 26-30, 30-24 (Sept. 29)
Freshman outside hitter Diandra Bucciarelli (Del Mar, Calif./ Torrey Pines) hit 10 kills in a losing effort as the Maroons opened UAA play against 15th-ranked NYU (17-2 overall, 1-0 UAA). Junior middle hitter Erin O'Neill (Peoria, Ill./ Notre Dame) and freshman middle hitter Anika Heavener (Telford, Pa./ Souderton) each collected six blocks.
#2 Washington (Mo.) def. Chicago 30-11, 30-19, 30-17 (Sept. 30)
Bucciarelli collected 10 digs as the Maroons dropped a 3-0 decision to the second-ranked Bears (13-1, 2-0).
Chicago def. Case 30-21, 30-27, 27-30, 30-21 (Sept. 30)
Chicago (4-17, 1-2) snapped a four-match losing streak with a four-game win over Case (7-13, 0-2). Senior setter Nikki Sindy (Granger, Ind./ Penn) was credited with a team season-high 51 assists and hit .417 (6-1-12). Junior middle hitter Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) had eight blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Katie Volzer (North Canton, Ohio/ Lake) finished with six.
