Chicago Drops Four at UAA Round Robin

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago volleyball team posted an 0-4 mark as it hosted the University Athletic Association Round Robin Saturday and Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Brandeis def. Chicago 35-33, 21-30, 22-30, 30-18, 15-12 (Oct. 14)
Junior middle hitters Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) and Erin O'Neill (Peoria, Ill./ Notre Dame) contributed 12 kills and eight blocks, repsectively, as the Maroons opened the weekend with a five-game loss to Brandeis University (9-10 overall, 1-3 UAA). Kendall also collected six blocks, while O'Neill recorded nine kills and a .381 hitting percentage (9-1-21). Freshman middle hitter Anika Heavener (Telford, Pa./ Souderton) finished with 10 kills and five blocks.

#17 Emory def. Chicago 30-18, 30-28, 30-23 (Oct. 14)
In their ninth match of the year against a nationally-ranked foe, Chicago dropped a three-game decision to 17th-ranked Emory University (15-8, 4-1). Heavener led the Maroons' attack with seven kills, while O'Neill registered five block assists.

Carnegie Mellon def. Chicago 30-20, 30-21, 30-24 (Oct. 15)
O'Neill hit .357 (8-3-14) and served a pair of aces in a three-game loss to Carnegie Mellon University (14-11, 4-3). Kendall paced the Maroons with three blocks.

Rochester def. Chicago 30-25, 18-30, 30-21, 10-30, 15-9 (Oct. 15)
Kendall led four Maroons (4-24, 1-6) in double figure kills with 19 in a five-game loss to the University of Rochester (17-8, 2-5) in the round robin finale. Freshman outside hitter Diandra Bucciarelli (Del Mar, Calif./ Torrey Pines) hit 14 kills, while O'Neill and sophomore outside hitter Katie Volzer (North Canton, Ohio/ Lake) collected 13 and 10, respectively. Freshman libero Liz Sugden's (Woodstock, Ill./ Woodstock) notched 22 digs, while sophomore setter Nikki Boddicker (Encino, Calif./ Buckley School) was credited with 33 assists.
