Chicago Improves to 14-0
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Senior Korry Schwanz (Menominee, Mich./ Menominee) went 10-for-10 from the foul line in the second half en route to a 17-point performance as the seventh-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team defeated Case Western Reserve University 71-62 in University Athletic Association play Sunday at the Veale Center.
With the victory, Chicago (14-0 overall, 3-0 UAA) remained one of five undefeated teams in the NCAA Division III.
After falling behind 9-2 in the game's first 2:27, the Maroons rallied to a take a 31-30 lead at halftime.
A pair of Schwanz free throws gave Chicago a six-point lead, 48-42, with 10:23 left in the contest.
Chicago held at least a five-point edge until the 2:48 mark when Case's Ashleigh Tondo hit a jumper to cut the Maroons' lead to 61-58. The Spartans (8-6, 0-3) would get no closer as Chicago outscored them 10-4 the rest of the way.
Schwanz, who improved her season free throw percentage to 91.7%, hit six foul shots in the game's final 2:16.
Chicago junior Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) led all scorers with 20 points -- her sixth 20-point effort of the season -- while junior Nicaya Rapier (Munster, Ind./ Bishop Noll) notched her second double-double of the year with 14 points and 10 boards.
Mojidi also posted game highs with seven steals and four assists.
Tondo paced Case with 16 points off the bench. Dana Dempsey and Colleen Martin added 12 and 10 points, respectively, as the Spartans dropped their third in a row.
