Chicago Routs Emory to Improve to 13-0
ATLANTA, Ga. -- The seventh-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team held host Emory University scoreless for nearly 12 minutes in the first half en route to an 81-50 University Athletic Association victory Friday night at the Woodruff Center.
With the win, Chicago improved to 13-0 overall and 2-0 in UAA play. The Maroons entered the contest as one of eight undefeated teams in the NCAA Division III.
Chicago fell behind 6-0 in the game's opening minute before starting a 25-0 run during which the Maroons forced nine turnovers.
The Maroons built a 43-26 advantage by halftime and put the game away with an 11-0 run during the first 4:03 of the second stanza.
The UAA's leading scorer, junior Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) paced the Maroons with a game-high 19 points. Freshman Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, and four blocked shots.
Senior Korry Schwanz (Menominee, Mich./ Menominee) and junior Nicaya Rapier (Munster, Ind./ Bishop Noll) also tallied in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Rapier grabbed eight rebounds to share game-high honors with Hackney.
Sophomore Alex Leach (Gurnee, Ill./ Warren) handed out seven assists -- the most by a Chicago player this season.
Chicago shot 54.5% from the field while limiting Emory to a 29.0% clip. The Maroons also outrebounded the Eagles 49-27.
Kendall Boyd led the Eagles (7-6, 1-1) with 11 points, while Jenny Kraus added 10 points off the bench.
