Schwanz Scores 1,000th Point as Maroons Defeat North Central
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Senior Korry Schwanz (Menominee, Mich./ Menominee) scored a game-high 17 points -- including the 1,000th of her career -- as the 18th-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team defeated host North Central College 69-43 on Tuesday evening.
Schwanz became the seventh player in Chicago history to reach the 1,000-point plateau with a jumper at the 5:37 mark of the first half. Her 17 points on the night gave her 1,005 for her career.
Schwanz, who connected on seven of 10 attempts from the field including a 3-for-3 effort from three-point range, scored 10 points in the game's first 6:34 as the Maroons (7-0) jumped out to a 23-4 lead. Chicago built a 43-26 advantage at the intermission and maintained a 20-point lead for the game's final 16:18.
Freshman Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) posted her first career double-double with a 13-point, 11-rebound performance. She also collected six blocked shots.
Junior Nicaya Rapier (Munster, Ind./ Bishop Noll) also finished in double digits for the Maroons, as she tallied 11 points to go along with nine boards. Chicago outrebounded the Cardinals by a 57-31 margin.
Brianne Parra paced North Central (1-6) with 15 points, while Jessica Davis came off the bench to add 10. The Cardinals shot just 23.8% from the field.
The win extended the Maroons' non-conference winning streak to 22 games.
