Maroons Fall to NYU 76-75; Mojidi Nets 1,000th Point

NEW YORK -- Adrienne Rochetti's free throw with 3.1 seconds left in the game lifted New York University to a 76-75 University Athletic Association victory over the University of Chicago women's basketball team in a clash of nationally-ranked teams Sunday at the Coles Sports Center.

Chicago, which entered the game ranked 12th by USA Today/ESPN and 13th by D3hoops.com, trailed 75-72 when junior Nofi Mojidi's (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) three-point basket evened the score with 10 seconds left in the contest.

Rochetti then hit the first of two free throw attempts following a Chicago foul with 3.1 seconds on the clock.

Mojidi led all scorers with 26 points, bringing her career total to 1,004. She became the eighth player in school history to reach the 1,000 point plateau.

Chicago (16-4 overall, 5-4 UAA) built a 35-29 halftime advantage, but the Violets (18-2, 7-2) outscored the Maroons 10-4 during the first 6:04 of the second period to tie the game at 39-39.

Stephanie Ryba's three-pointer with 12:11 remaining gave NYU (#12 USA Today/ESPN, #18 D3hoops.com) a 44-41 lead. Ryba finished with 19 points.

The Violets maintained the advantage until Mojidi scored on a layup at the 6:32 mark to force a 53-53 deadlock. Rochetti, who tallied 10 points on the day, answered with a jumper just seven seconds later, giving NYU a lead it would hold until Mojidi's game-tying three-pointer with 10 seconds to go.

Jessica McEntee led NYU with 20 points and 17 rebounds. Karen Bachman contributed 11 points, nine boards, and five blocks.

Freshman Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) joined Mojidi in double figures with 11 points to go along with nine boards and three blocked shots.

Chicago, which suffered its fourth straight setback, outshot the Violets 43% to 33% and outrebounded them by a 49-40 margin.

The Maroons turned the ball over on 24 occasions to 14 for NYU. Both teams shot better than 80% from the foul line.
