Chicago Ranked #1 in NCAA Division III
CHICAGO -- For the first time in the program's 36-year history, the University of Chicago women's basketball team has been ranked #1 in the NCAA Division III.
One of only three undefeated teams in Division III, Chicago (16-0 overall, 5-0 University Athletic Association) received seven of 10 first-place votes in this week's USA Today/ESPN coaches poll.
Chicago displaced Bowdoin College from the top spot. The Polar Bears, who are ranked second this week, won their first 15 games before dropping a 51-49 decision to Maine Maritime Academy last Wednesday.
Chicago, which was also ranked fourth this week by D3hoops.com, hosts a pair of nationally-ranked UAA rivals this weekend at the Ratner Athletics Center. The Maroons entertain 12th-ranked New York University (15-1, 4-1) Friday at 6:00 p.m., before taking on #17 Brandeis University (13-2, 3-2) Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
