Chicago Defeats Rochester in Top-5 Matchup
CHICAGO -- Junior Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) scored 10 of her game-high 19 points in the second half as the fifth-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team held on for a 67-60 win over second-ranked University of Rochester in University Athletic Association play Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center.
Mojidi and freshman Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) each scored nine points in the first half as the Maroons built a 35-20 advantage. Hackney finished the game with 14 points.
Chicago (16-0 overall, 5-0 UAA) outscored the Yellowjackets 12-5 during the first 6:36 of the second stanza to take a 47-25 lead.
Sparked by Megan Krebbeks, Rochester (14-2, 3-2) rallied to trim the Maroons' lead to five points, 63-58, at the 1:02 mark. Krebbeks scored 13 of her team-high 16 points as the Yellowjackets outscored Chicago 33-16 during the 12:22 stretch.
Sophomore Alex Leach (Gurnee, Ill./ Warren) and senior Korry Schwanz (Menominee, Mich./ Menominee) each hit a pair of free throws in the final minute as the Maroons held on for the victory -- their second over a top-25 opponent this season.
Leach and Schwanz finished with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Julie Marriott scored 12 points for the Yellowjackets, while Alex Porter collected 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
One of three undefeated teams in the NCAA Division III, Chicago outshot Rochester 52% to 30% and held a slim 37-33 edge on the boards.
