Maroons Defeat Wheaton; Improve to 10-0
CHICAGO -- Juniors Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) and Nicaya Rapier (Munster, Ind./ Bishop Noll) scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, to lead the 14th-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team to a 57-36 win over Wheaton (Ill.) College Tuesday at the Ratner Athletics Center.
With the victory, the Maroons improved to 10-0 on the year and extended their non-conference winning streak to 25 games dating back to the 2004-05 campaign.
The Maroons fell behind 5-0 in the early going, but then scored 28 of the game's next 33 points. Chicago built a 40-18 advantage at the break.
Wheaton (5-5) started the second stanza with a 10-2 run to cut the Maroons' lead to 14 points, 42-28, but Chicago answered with a 13-2 run to put the game out of reach.
Chicago outrebounded the Thunder by a 49-31 margin and held Wheaton to a 24.6% clip from the field.
Sophomore Alex Leach (Gurnee, Ill./ Warren) and freshman Anna Woods (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./ Lower Merion) each grabbed a game-high seven rebounds as the Maroons improved to 5-0 at the Ratner Center.
Lynnea Kvam led Wheaton with six points.
