Chicago Defeats UW-Whitewater 82-72; Improves to 4-0
WHITEWATER, Wis. -- Junior Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) scored 26 points and collected eight steals to lead the University of Chicago women's basketball team to an 82-72 win Sunday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Mojidi connected on 10 of 16 attempts from the field -- including two of five from three-point distance -- and was 4-for-5 from the foul line as she matched her career scoring high.
The Maroons (4-0) built an early 18-9 lead before Wisconsin-Whitewater (4-1) rallied to take a 38-37 advantage at halftime.
Mojidi's layup 1:07 into the second half put the Maroons ahead to stay, 39-38. Chicago took its first double-digit lead of the afternoon, 74-64, when Mojidi hit a three-pointer at the 5:25 mark.
The Warhawks cut the gap to 76-70 on a pair of free throws by Jessica Wendt with 1:21 to play, but the Maroons closed out the game with a 6-2 run. Junior Lori Tanaka (Chicago, Ill./ Lane Tech) was perfect on four free throw attempts during the game's final 49 seconds.
Senior Korry Schwanz (Menominee, Mich./ Menominee) scored a season-high 16 points to notch her second straight double-digit performance and third in four games on the year.
Trisha Thill paced Wisconsin-Whitewater with 18 points, while Mary Donohoo added 10.
