Maroons Win Midway Classic
CHICAGO -- Tournament most valuable player, junior Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis), scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the University of Chicago women's basketball team to an 80-58 win over Wittenberg University in the title game of the 10th annual Midway Classic Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center.
Chicago (2-0) outscored Wittenberg (1-1) 14-2 during the final 6:44 of the first half to take a 40-28 lead at the intermission. Sophomore Alex Leach (Gurnee, Ill./ Warren) scored seven points during that stretch.
Leach then contributed six points as the Maroons opened the second stanza with an 18-0 run to give them a commanding 58-28 advantage with 15:22 left to play.
Leach joined Mojidi on the all-tournament team after finishing with 18 points, nine rebounds -- seven on the offensive end -- five assists, and five steals.
Freshman Jill DiNucci (Glenshaw, Pa./ Shaler Area) added 10 points and four boards in 11 minutes off the bench.
The Maroons outrebounded Wittenberg 46-28 and outshot the Tigers 47.6% to 32.8%.
Katie Gregorevich paced Wittenberg with 19 points. She was perfect on 10 free throw attempts.
