Chicago Places Fifth at Augustana Invite
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Senior Dilshanie Perera (Princeton, N.J./ Princeton) finished 18th among 364 runners to lead the University of Chicago women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the 33-team Brissman-Lundeen Invitational Friday at Augustana (Ill.) College.
Perera clocked a six-kilometer time of 22:31, which marked the fourth-fastest among Division III competitors. Angela Bizzarri of the University of Illinois won the event with a time of 20:54, while Grinnell College's Sarah Spencer paced the Division III field at 21:48.
Seniors Abby Sheldon (Durham, N.C./ N.C. Science & Math) and Jackie Kropp (Stevens Point, Wis./ Stevens Point) finished 35th and 40th, respectively, with times of 23:20 and 23:35.
Illinois, currently ranked sixth in the NCAA Division I, won the event with 16 points as it placed six runners among the top eight overall finishers. Grinnell College was the top Division III participant with 105 points, which was good for fourth place overall. Chicago placed fifth overall and second among Division III teams with 173 points.
