Chicago Captures Third Place at Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. -- Senior Vidthya Abraham (Spartanburg, S.C./ Governor's Math & Science) finished fourth among 210 runners as the University of Chicago women's cross country team opened its 2006 season with a third-place finish at the 17-team Elmhurst College Earlybird Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Abraham clocked a time of 11:43 on the 3,200-meter course en route to her fourth-place performance. Olivet Nazarene University's Bethany McCoy led the field with a time of 11:17.

Senior Dilshanie Perera (Princeton, N.J./ Princeton) placed 11th with a time of 12:12, while senior Jackie Kropp (Stevens Point, Wis./ Stevens Point) and sophomore Rachel Venezia (Canton, Mass./ Canton) finished 17th (12:28) and 20th (12:31), respectively.

Olivet Nazarene, which placed four runners among the top 10, won the meet with 35 points. Wheaton (Ill.) College and Chicago were next with 72 and 76 points, respectively.
