Maroons Place Fourth at UAA Championship
ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Seniors Dilshanie Perera (Princeton, N.J./ Princeton) and Abby Sheldon (Durham, N.C./ N.C. Science & Math) claimed All-University Athletic Association accolades as the University of Chicago women's cross country team captured fourth place at the 2006 UAA Championship Saturday at Washington University.
Perera and Sheldon earned All-UAA second team honors by finishing eighth and 14th, respectively, among the 74-runner field. Perera covered the five-kilometer course in 22:44, while Sheldon finished in 23:28.
Sophomore Rachel Venezia (Canton, Mass./ Canton) and senior Jackie Kropp (Stevens Point, Wis./ Stevens Point) narrowly missed inclusion on the All-UAA Team (top 14) as they finished 16th and 17th with respective times of 23:42 and 23:43.
Case Western Reserve University edged out host Washington for the team title. The Spartans placed three runners among the top five and finished with 39 points. The Bears had three of the top six runners and collected 42 points. Emory University (63) and Chicago (79) garnered third and fourth place, respectively.
Washington's Beth Herndon paced the field with a time of 22:08.
