Three Maroons Take Top Honors at Elmhurst Invite

ELMHURST, Ill. -- Three University of Chicago wrestlers won their respective weight class titles as the Maroons placed third at the seven-team Al Hanke Invitational Saturday at Elmhurst College.

At 165 pounds, senior Phil Kruzel (Elmhurst, Ill./ Fenwick) won by major decision in the semifinals and notched a 5-3 win in the title bout. The two victories improved his overall season record to 18-1.

Senior Mike Bishof (Oak Brook, Ill./ York) won a pair of bouts to earn the 174-pound title. After winning by fall in the semifinals, he defeated top-seeded Adam Moe of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 15-8 in the championship match.

In the 133-pound weight class, sophomore Ben Hart (Wood Dale, Ill./ Fenton) went 2-0 on the day, including a 7-1 decision over the top seed, Wisconsin-Whitewater's Greg Kuchan, in the final bout.

Chicago also featured one runner-up as senior Drew Marriott (Excelsior Springs, Mo./ Excelsior Springs) won two bouts before falling 7-6 to top-seeded Nick Metcalf of Elmhurst.

Tenth-ranked Elmhurst collected 118 points to edge #30 Wisconsin-Whitewater (109) for the team title. Chicago captured third place with 96 points. Sixteenth-ranked Loras College finished in sixth place with 26 points.
