Two Seniors Place at Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. -- University of Chicago seniors Phil Kruzel (Elmhurst, Ill./ Fenwick) and Mike Bishof (Oak Brook, Ill./ York) placed second and fifth in their respective weight class as the Maroons finished 13th among 29 teams at the Wheaton (Ill.) College Pete Willson Invitational.

Kruzel went 4-1 on the weekend to raise his overall season record to 23-2. The fifth-ranked 165-pounder in the NCAA Division III, Kruzel won his first match by fall before taking the next three by decision. He then dropped a 10-4 decision to Tim Palmer of the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in the championship bout.

Competing at 174 pounds, Bishof won four of six matches. He won his first three bouts to earn a spot in the semifinals where he lost to the eventual champion, Mike Jackson of NCAA Division II University of Indianapolis. Bishof capped the weekend with a 3-2 win over another Division II rival, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside's Albert Morgan.

Wisconsin-LaCrosse, the third-ranked team in Division III, edged Indianapolis, the 15th-ranked squad in Division II, 146.5 to 134 for the team title.

The 29-team field included nine nationally-ranked schools, seven from Division III and two from Division II.
