Five Maroons Selected to All-UAA Team
CHICAGO -- Led by first-team selections, senior defender Sally Hall (Durham, N.C./ Jordan), junior forward Christine Farmer (Pine City, N.Y./ Elmira Notre Dame), and sophomore midfielder Siggy Nachtergaele (Davis, Calif./ Davis), five members of the University of Chicago women's soccer team have been named to the 2006 All-University Athletic Association Team, the conference announced today.
Hall led a Chicago defensive unit that held opponents to 14 goals in 18 matches overall and five goals in seven UAA contests. The UAA defensive player of the week for Sept. 11-17, Hall also contributed offensively with a goal and an assist.
A two-time UAA offensive player of the week, Farmer was the Maroons' leading scorer with 14 goals -- the fifth-highest output in school history-- and four assists for 32 points. In UAA play, she collected two goals (one game-winner) and an assist in five games.
Nachtergaele scored two goals, both in conference play, and added a pair of assists for six points. She scored the winning goal in the Maroons' UAA opener, a 1-0 win over Carnegie Mellon University.
Sophomore midfielder Olivia Ndyabagye (Albuquerque, N.M./ Sandia) and freshman defender Anne Scherer (Cincinnati, Ohio/ St. Ursula) earned inclusion on the All-UAA Team as honorable mention selections.
Ndyabagye was the Maroons' fourth-leading scorer with two goals and an assist for five points, while Scherer helped bolster the Chicago defense.
Chicago finished the 2006 campaign with a 12-5-1 overall record including a 4-3-0 mark in UAA play, which was good for third place.
