Maroons Win Season Opener
TIFFIN, Ohio -- Junior forward Christine Farmer (Pine City, N.Y./ Elmira Notre Dame) scored three goals during the first 13 minutes of the second half as the 24th-ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team defeated host Heidelberg College 5-0 in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.
The teams played a scoreless first half, despite Chicago's (1-0) 19-2 advantage in shots.
Farmer scored a pair of goals 48 seconds apart early in the second stanza, tallying at 46:57 and 47:45. She added a third goal at the 57:04 mark.
After an own goal gave the Maroons a 4-0 lead in the 58th minute (57:31), freshman midfielder Molly Costich (Wilton, Conn./ Wilton) capped the scoring with 9:35 left in the match. Junior midfielder Meryl Prochaska (Centerville, Ohio/ Centerville) assisted on the goal, giving her two assists on the afternoon.
Sophomore goalkeeper Polly Cline (Traverse City, Mich./ Central) made a pair of saves to notch the shutout in her first career start for the Maroons.
The Maroons outshot Heidelberg (0-1) 32-3 on the afternoon.
