Maroons Rout NYU 5-1;
Amy Reifert Records 200th Victory at Chicago
CHICAGO -- Junior defender Amanda Catalano (Whitinsville, Mass./ Northbridge) scored the first three goals of the match as the University of Chicago women's soccer team defeated New York University 5-1 in University Athletic Association play Saturday at Stagg Field.
The victory marked the 200th for Head Coach Amy Reifert in 16 years at Chicago. Reifert now stands at 200-76-30.
Catalano, a defender who had not scored a goal in 43 previous career contests, tallied off a corner kick at 9:18, off a free kick at 29:36, and again off a corner kick at 43:01 as the Maroons (11-4-1 overall, 3-2-0 UAA) took a 3-0 lead after one half.
Catalano assisted on Chicago's fourth goal of the day by sophomore midfielder Siggy Nachtergaele (Davis, Calif./ Davis) at the 52:06 mark. Junior forward Christine Farmer (Pine City, N.Y./ Elmira Notre Dame) was also credited with an assist on Nachtergaele's second goal of the season.
Senior defender Bridget Hogan (Lombard, Ill./ Glenbard East) capped the scoring for the Maroons at the 64:56 mark with her first of the campaign off an assist from freshman forward Melissa Plesac (Hobart, Ind./ Hobart).
Lola Coker got NYU (6-8-1, 0-5-0) on the board when she fired a free kick past Chicago junior netminder Amanda Sutter (Irvine, Calif./ University) at the 78:48 mark.
Sutter made three saves as she raised her record as a starter to 4-3-0.
The victory extended the Maroons' home winning streak to 31 matches (28-0-3) and marked their 16th consecutive win at Stagg Field.
