Chicago Places Second at Home Invitational
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago women's swimming & diving team finished in second place at the seven-team Chicago Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine Pool.
In the 400-yard medley relay, four Chicago freshmen -- Alicia Bushman (Green Bay, Wis./ Home School), Cassie O'Neill (Roseburg, Ore./ Roseburg), Kathie Ang (Montclair, N.J./ Montclair), and Jeannette Daly (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Baldwin) combined to win the event with a school-record time of 4:15.47.
In the diving competition, senior Ashley Bourne (Sudbury, Mass./ Lexington) established school records in both the 1-meter (314.2) and 3-meter (337.0) events. She placed fourth in the 1-meter diving and was the runner-up at 3-meters.
In addition to her performance in the 400-yard medley relay, O'Neill won three individual events: the 200-yard (2:16.34) and 400-yard individual medley (4:48.24) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.91).
Sophomore Rachel Zarnke (Rockford, Ill./ Boylan) collected a pair of first-place showings, taking top honors in the 100-yard (1:03.28) and 200-yard butterfly (2:17.64).
Olivet College won the meet with 1,010 points. The Maroons were second with 896.
