Maroons Take Two Duals at Illinois Wesleyan
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's swimming & diving team recorded a 2-0 mark at the Illinois Wesleyan University Triangular on Saturday, as the Maroons defeated the host Titans 76-36 and Principia College 84-29.
The Maroons won nine of 13 events as they improved to 3-0 in dual meets competition this year.
Four Chicago swimmers notched first-place showings: sophomore Sarah Laws (Eagleville, Pa./ Methacton) in the 50-yard freestyle (26.35), freshman Kathie Ang (Montclair, N.J./ Montclair) in the 200-yard butterfly (2:22.57), freshman Alicia Bushman (Geen Bay, Wis./ Home School) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:19.69), and freshman Cassie O'Neill (Roseburg, Ore./ Roseburg) in the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.98) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:34.24).
Senior Ashley Bourne (Sudbury, Mass./ Lexington) swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competition (124.20, 169.10).
The Maroons also captured first place in the 400-yard medley relay (4:22.72) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:01.36).
Ang, Bushman, Laws, and O'Neill teamed up to swim the 400-yard medley relay, while freshman Jeannette Daly (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Baldwin), Ang, Bushman, and Laws comprised the 400-yard freestyle relay squad.
