March 31, 2007 ELMHURST, Ill. -- Three Maroons combined to win four events as the University of Chicago women's outdoor track & field team opened its 2007 campaign with a first-place finish at the eight-team Elmhurst College Invitational on Saturday. Freshman Claire Ray (Park Ridge, Ill./ St. Ignatius) won a pair of events, taking top honors in the shot put (11.74 m) and hammer throw (39.29 m). Senior Abby Sheldon (Durham, N.C./ N.C. Science & Math) led the way in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:17.41, while junior Myra Collins's (Converse, Texas/ Antonian) 5.33-meter distance was good for first place in the long jump competition. |
